Night Dogs by Kent Anderson, Former police officer Kent Anderson, author of the memorable Vietnam War novel Sympathy for the Devil, returns with a powerful new novel about a Vietnam-vet cop who still carries the war inside himself. Searing and brutally honest, Night Dogs plunges us into the free-fire zones of our cities, where the legendary thin blue line is breaking down. The North Precinct of Portland, Oregon, is home to two kinds of cops: sergeants and lieutenants who've screwed up somewhere else, and patrolmen who thrive on the action on the Avenue. Officer Hanson is the second kind, a veteran who has traded his Bronze Star for a badge. War is what Hanson knows, and in this battle for Portland's meanest streets, he's fighting not so much for the law as for his own code of justice. Hanson is a man who seems to fear nothing--except his own memories. And it is his past that could destroy him now: An enemy in the department is determined to bring him down by digging into his war record and resurrecting the darkest agonies of that nightmare time. And Hanson himself risks everything--his career, his equilibrium, even his life--when the only other survivor of his Special Forces unit comes back into his life. Doc Dawson is a drug dealer and a killer...but he's the one man Hanson can trust. Night Dogs is an extraordinary work from a powerful and authentic voice in American fiction. Recoiling from the violence that Hanson deals with every day, the violence that is in Hanson, readers will also understand the compassion that drives him. A novel remarkable for its razor-sharp characterizations and dialogue, its freshness of observation, Night Dogs--and Hanson--will remain etched in the memory for a long time tocome.
Ezra & Nehemiah by Jacob M. Myers, "Ezra and Nememiah (Volume 14 in the acclaimed Anchor Bible series) continue the spiritual history of Jerusalem begun in "II Chronicles; they relate the retum of the Jewish people to their home from exile in Babylonia and the revitalization of the Jewish religion. Two remarkable personalities--with strikingly different approaches to the same objective--played dominant roles in this rebuilding of a nation. Ezra, the learned, pious, scribal priest, known among his contemporaries as "the second Moses," was the architect of spiritual reform. Nehemiah, the forceful, shrewd, resourceful administrator, was the master international politician. The importance of Ezra and Nememiah is, however, not only historical. With I and II Chronicles, believed to be written by the same author, Ezra and Nememiah comprise of an exceedingly complex jigsaw puzzle of parallels, direct quotes, and retellings, in some cases, of the same stories--all of which is, perhaps, more absorbing for the scholar than for the layman. But a study of Ezra and Nememiah--and the conclusions to which it leads--is crucial to an understanding of who wrote which portions of the Bible, how and when they came to be written, and what that understanding tells us ultimately about how the Bible, bit by bit over a period of almost a thousand years, came into being.
James Hanson, Baron Hanson - James Edward, Baron Hanson (January 20 1922 – November 1 2004) was a English conservative industrialist who built his businesses through the process of leveraged buyouts through Hanson plc. He was created Baron Hanson, a life peerage, and sat in the House of Lords thereafter. Isaac Hanson - Clarke Isaac Hanson, (born November 17, 1980), is the oldest member of the pop-rock trio Hanson. He shares the spotlight with his two younger brothers, Taylor Hanson (born March 14, 1983) and Zac Hanson (born October 22, 1985). Hanson (band) - Hanson is a pop band formed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the 1990s by brothers Clarke Isaac Hanson (born November 17 1980), Jordan Taylor Hanson (born March 14 1983) and Zachary Walker Hanson (born October 22 1985). They are best known for their hit song, "MMMBop". John Hanson (politician) - John Hanson was a 19th century Liberian Senator from Grand Bassa County who was involved in efforts to relocate African Americans to Liberia. There is sometimes some confusion between him and John Hanson, the President of the United States Continental Congress, and some of those who claim John Hanson to have been the first President of the United States also hold that the American Hanson was black.
